My brain is starting to lose the ability to parse sentences, so I think it's time to call it a night. Still spending a big chunk of my time sleeping. Very glad I have another week off to actually enjoy.

Did not manage to make much of a dent in the Yuletide archive yet due to family obligations and napping (in roughly equal parts), but I did get through a few at least, an almost completely random selection. I think I'm over the hump with this cold, but I don't want to speak too soon (and thus wake up tomorrow morning unable to breathe properly or talk at all).

My Yuletide recs are, as always, just a reflection of what spoke to me the loudest. There are also many, many other stories (already!) that I enjoyed a great deal. Yuletide is an embarrassment of riches. :)

4 recs in QI RPF, Dance Academy, China MiĆ©ville - Railsea, and Edward Gorey - Gashlycrumb Tinies + 2 from 2011 in Grimm and American Horror Story )

I really should have updated again before now, because I had brainy thoughts, but then there were things! And stuff! Anyway. The Good: I finished the winter program at work on time. I have two weeks holidays. My brother is visiting for Christmas. The Bad: I picked up my mother's awful cold on my first day of vacation, and it's peaking right about...now. I have to go in to work anyway some time this week to do some website updates. The Fabulous: Yuletide is here!

I know everyone thinks they have the best stories for Yuletide, but seriously, I got the best stories for Yuletide. You have no idea. (But you will!)

In Ascension, By Descent [ Political Animals ]
TJ and Dougie growing up in the White House together and everything they go through. This story is seriously everything that I asked for and everything I only just hinted I might like and just a whole lot more on top of that. And long and detailed and intimate. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

Love Letters from Earth [ Solar System - Anthropomorphic ]
And also! I seriously got an epistolary anthropomorphic solar system treat (Earth/Mars) and it is brilliant and poetic and gorgeous. I honestly had no idea what kind of story my prompt would inspire and I could not be more pleased.

I could rave so much more about both of them but it is very late and can't finger, can't brain. And now, oh god, I need to go to bed. I know everyone is planning on sleeping in, but morning is still going to come a lot sooner than I'm expecting...

I was just, finally, adding myself to the friending meme and I realised that maybe I should throw an "I'm not dead!" post up here. I skipped October's round-up because I was too embarrassed (seriously, I would've been, like, two lines long) and I always do November and December together after Yuletide is over because of the sometimes epic amounts of canon review that I do.

The big news is that I'm (probably, not confirmed yet) moving in January, which means I will have my own space again for the first time in over two years. My plans to move back to Toronto fell through so it looks like I will be here for at least another year, so I needed to do something. I think I've actually started to forget what's even in all of my boxes, they were packed away so long ago. I'm really looking forward to having all of my books and comics and movies out in the open again. And my own kitchen stuff! The only problem is I am seriously lacking in furniture...so it's probably a good thing they finally opened up an IKEA in Manitoba. I see a trip to the city in my future.

ETA: Actually, let me add more, since I'm on a roll here. I'm actually singing with two choirs now--one is the local eclectic women's choir that has been running since I was a wee thing, and the other is a newly formed community choir under a very professional director who wants us to do Great Things, which I am totally down with. I like being challenged, and I have high hopes that when we're done with the Christmas cantata, which we're performing on Sunday evening, next year we'll do some madrigals in addition to the works in several other languages that he has already suggested we'll be doing. I'm also involved with the spring theatre production, though I'm not stage managing this year. I'm actually helping to shape and write it, since we're scripting it around live performances of some classic radio dramas, and also I was elected Treasurer of the theatre group, mostly because no one else wanted it.

I am deep into Yuletide right now, and so BEARS. But I love writing in these wee tiny fandoms. I've missed writing a lot this fall in general, as I lost all mental energy to do anything but work, and I'm really glad it's picking up again. I actually have a handful of other things that I finished drafts of this summer that just need to be edited and posted; such was the impact of The Fall.

And as usual I am watching all of the television. I start the season completely indiscriminate and then gradually things fall off the edges. My new Watch Immediately shows turned out to be Elementary and Chicago Fire, with several others still lining up behind them although I've dropped most of the sitcoms I started with, even the ones I carried over from last year. (Don't worry, I still love you, Happy Endings!)

Man, things were going so well over the summer, I was really on track, then September came and punched me in the face.

In September I wrote 12,755 words and posted one story, which was actually just a reveal post and not a real post. I even had a to-do list of stories that I'd finished a first draft of and meant to post over the course of the month and that didn't happen either. Somehow I managed to forget how the same thing happened last year--everything starts happening again at work in September. (I can't even blame television--I'm behind on that, too.)

One month left to post my remaining kink bingo stories in progress, and then we hit Yuletide season. Huzzah!

I wasn't going to do this, but now I am. I blame [personal profile] eudaimon and [personal profile] fluoresce. And my need to do something fun today.

(REVERSE) I SURRENDER
1. Comment to this post with a basis of some TV show idea. (Science fiction show, medical drama, criminal procedure, etc...)
2. I will create a cast of characters, including the actors who'd play them.
3. There will be actor photos, character bios and show synopsis, among other things.
4. Post to your own journal! You know, if you're into that kind of thing.

Last post of the day, promise!

Reversathon reveals are up! Okay, they went up on Friday and I'm just a little bit behind. It turns out that [livejournal.com profile] pitry and I wrote for one another, so first of all may I point you to the fabulous (and fabulously long!) Holding the Fort that was written for me, all about Neville and the DA during their final year at Hogwarts.

And then, the story what I wrote:

Flight (5535 words) by faviconcjmarlowe
Harry Potter. Neville/Harry. PG-13.

Neville knew, once the Ministry announced the waiving of all academic requirements to enter Auror training, that they were still needed to fight the fight. But nobody was ready yet in the first few weeks following the fall of Voldemort. They all needed to find themselves again, Neville as much as anyone, so when Harry decided to invite him along on an impromptu escape he thought it might be exactly what he was looking for.

Thank you to the [insanejournal.com profile] reversathon mods for resurrecting one of my favourite exchanges ever!

August was pretty awesome, NGL. I wrote 31,201 words and posted 10 stories in 6 fandoms. And it feels good. I'm not sure how long it's going to last, but I've found a groove again, and apparently that groove is porn. That's two months in a row that I've met my writing goals, so I'm tentatively going to bump them up a little bit again and see what happens.

The problem with living in my mother's house (I say that like there's just one) is that I'm occasionally expected to do things like be sociable with the neighbours when we have a turkey fry. Events which tend to happen on long weekends, when I've been looking forward to three days all to myself, yay. Bah. Other people. Also, said guests are currently using my netflix which means that all other internet activity, up to and including posting this update, is sketchy. So much for work and tagging.

So I somehow managed to completely corrupt the file directory on one of my external hard drives a couple of weeks ago (I actually know how, sort of, except I didn't even know that particular thing could happen and also, long story) and I've been running data recovery on it this weekend because all the files are there, it just no longer sees them for me to use (the original was a 2TB drive which necessitated getting a 3TB drive to recover to; also, I really wanted a 3TB drive). Apparently it has some idiosyncratic data sorting techniques, because despite my own organization of video files into titles and seasons, like the average person, the drive had apparently saved most of CKR's appearances into adjoining clusters. It just recovered episodes of Due South, My Life as a Dog and Shattered one after the other. I think I approve.

Nineteen hours to go and we're already at over 600,000 files. Basically, I'm never going to get these sorted. It had to be the drive where I kept most of my complete television shows and also several writing and rpg backups. :|

Is it wrong to hope it rains this afternoon?

The first of five (unrelated) stories I plan to post over five days this week, all solo kink. I have no appropriate icon for this, so here, have two boys kissing!

Temeraire. John Granby(/Little). NC-17.

Wow, I apparently fail at life because I very carefully had this all ready to go for the first of the month and then just completely forgot to post it. For over two weeks. Best laid plans and all. And the reason I very proudly had it all ready to go on the first of the month was because for the first time in ages I actually made my writing goals again. Slightly more modest writing goals than I was working with 2-3 years ago but still. Goals.

In July I wrote 31,244 words and posted two stories in two fandoms (one of which is still anonymous) and finished and began submitting one more. And because I'm posting this late and can do this: as of yesterday, I've written more words in 2012 than in all of 2011. Words themselves are obviously in no way the only measure of success, or even necessarily a very good one in many cases, but they're something concrete that I can track and use to feel like I'm working and moving in the right direction. I know tracking them as closely as I do is a little bit obsessive, but collecting and organizing information like that is something that centres and motivates me, and I have enough data now to understand a little better what the numbers actually mean, and how to read my own trends, which I find really useful. I kind of can't wait to post August's roundup. It's a little bit beautiful to me.

I seem to have committed diving porn again. Oh dear. But I am not alone! Over yonder you can find [personal profile] eudaimon's give me shelter or show me heart, because there is never enough Tom/Riley in the world.

And now, the completely necessary sequel to Free Position:

Scratch (3037 words) by faviconcjmarlowe
Fandom: Diving RPF, Sports RPF
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Tom Daley/Riley McCormick
Characters: Tom Daley, Riley McCormick
Summary: No matter what he told himself, Riley never really thought it was a one-time thing. He's not wrong. It doesn't happen the way he thinks it's going to, but he can work with that.

This one also quite handily fulfils my kink bingo square "gags/silence".

This entry was originally posted at http://cj.dreamwidth.org/12578.html.
I would like it on record that this is [personal profile] eudaimon's fault. Because I'm sure that when she posts hers, she's going to point the finger at me.

Here's your visual aid, if you need one. You're welcome.

Free Position
Diving RPF. Tom Daley/Riley McCormick. 4100 words. NC-17. [ on AO3 ]
Tom's got a medal, Riley's got a crush, and they've both got a lot of things they want to do in what little time they have left. Contains: showers, overheard sex, biting, extreme flexibility

Riley's seen so many naked men in his life that he stopped even noticing a long time ago. )
