Did not manage to make much of a dent in the Yuletide archive yet due to family obligations and napping (in roughly equal parts), but I did get through a few at least, an almost completely random selection. I think I'm over the hump with this cold, but I don't want to speak too soon (and thus wake up tomorrow morning unable to breathe properly or talk at all).

My Yuletide recs are, as always, just a reflection of what spoke to me the loudest. There are also many, many other stories (already!) that I enjoyed a great deal. Yuletide is an embarrassment of riches. :)

4 recs in QI RPF, Dance Academy, China MiƩville - Railsea, and Edward Gorey - Gashlycrumb Tinies + 2 from 2011 in Grimm and American Horror Story:

Yes, as I was prepping my reading system for this year ( because I absolutely would lose track of what I read and loved if I didn't have one ) I discovered two recs that somehow didn't get posted last year. So here they are now:

Bridgetown [Grimm]
I'm pretty sure hipster trolls might just be one of the best things ever.

the after hours [American Horror Story, Tate]
This really seems to get Tate, that unsettling combination of creepiness and teenagerness and neediness and horror.

And now on to this year! (Also, please see my previous post about the stories I received (in Political Animals and Anthropomorphic Solar System) because they are truly wonderful.)

K is for Kinky [ QI RPF ]
The dialogue in this is just absolutely dead on, and the whole thing is hilarious. Plus, blue whale.

Pieces Missing [ Dance Academy ]
The last series of Dance Academy broke me a little bit, and this totally gets what it would have been like for everyone, and how they would all try to cope.

Polysemy [ Railsea - China MiƩville ]
This story not only effortlessly recreates the feel of the canon but gives us an intimate and faceted portrayal of the woman who would be captain. Just fantastic.

An Abecedary of Tragic Ends, Explicated for the Reader [ Gashlycrumb Tinies - Edward Gorey ]
Twenty-six little nuggets of brilliance, and I swear, this is written exactly to my sense of humour.
