day the fifth

You may notice that there was no "day the fourth". You may not. That would be because I instead watched tv and read a book and worked on a project that I've had on my plate for almost a year. Ahhh, there's nothing like procrastination. It's an essay about the year I spent abroad and I just didn't realize how emotional it was going to make me to write it. I should have gotten to this point six months ago, given myself some time to get over it and gone back and edited, but instead I'm trying to push through the entire process in a couple of days. Let this be a lesson to me. /o\
In looking at what I've recced, and what other people have recced, I really feel like 2010 is the year of the crossover for Yuletide.
Observe and Detect [Castle]
Ryan/Esposito. Honestly, I don't know why there aren't hundreds of Ryan/Esposito stories out there. I'm always on the lookout for a good one, and this story really hits the spot.
The Giants of the Prairies [The Golden Girls/Deadwood]
This story is so bittersweet but so warm, too. It hurts just a little, but it makes you feel okay about that, and about time moving on. (And on a personal level, it doesn't hurt that it's one of those rare stories that makes mention of my home, if in a general sort of a way.)
Phalangeridae Didelphimorphia (or an Opossum’s Adventure) [Fantastic Mr. Fox]
This book was one of my favourite books when I was a kid, and when the movie adaptation came out it was one of my favourite movies as an adult. This story is so very much like the movies it's amazing and wondrous and I kind of want to roll around in it a little.
You Dance With Who Brung You [Gunless]
Ben/Sean. These two characters have so much unsaid backstory, and I love what this story does with it. It's exciting but it's also thoughtful, in a way that I love.
No Reservations: Narnia [not unexpectedly, Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations/Chronicles of Narnia]
This is fabulous from word one. Just the idea of this is fabulous, and the execution is exquisite. I'm sort of in awe of its brilliance, seriously. Read this story.
