Yuletide: day the first
Dec. 26th, 2013 12:10 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I'm on Christmas vacation, so of course I'm sick. It's been a while since I was quite this bad off, though. Right now I've reached the stage where if I drug myself and sit perfectly still and breathe shallowly I'm okay, but if I do anything else my ribs are screaming from the coughing.
So I guess I haven't been around! First there was work. Then there was more work. Then, after that, there was some work. Then I performed! Then I got sick, and now it's now. That's a highly accurate representation of the past two months of my life.
However! There was still Yuletide.
I am one of those people who adamantly doesn't shake her present, so I was delighted when the archive opened with a Cabin in the Woods fic for me!
Tahiti Sounds Good (1006 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: The Director (Cabin in the Woods), The Ancient Ones - Character
Summary: What's a little sacrifice when it comes to saving the human race?
I've been sleeping too much to have made the slightest dent on the archive yet, but here are a few stories so far that had a little something special for me.
Hoc Titulo in Latine Est (3254 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Satan's Alley (2008), Tropic Thunder (2008)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Father O'Malley/Apprentice Monk
Characters: Father O'Malley (Satan's Alley), Apprentice Monk (Satan's Alley)
Additional Tags: Blasphemy, lack of historical research
Summary: Father O'Malley feels it the moment he first lays eyes on the young man – a shiver, a skittering chill up his spine, the slightest increase in the speed of his heartbeat. He pays it little mind at the time. The old stone walls of the monastery are prone to unpredictable gusts of wind, after all, though a gust of wind cannot explain the way his mouth goes dry the instant he looks into those deep, dark eyes.
I have been wanting more Satan's Alley fic for ages, and this one absolutely runs with what little canon we have, but the brightest spot for me was the self-aware crossover-but-not-really tag at the end.
Homefires (1323 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Peaky Blinders (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Tommy Shelby, Polly Gray
Summary: She taught him how to make book, and she taught him how to kiss, though he was a cack-handed sod at both to begin with.
Absolutely perfect Polly voice, just what I was hoping for when I went looking for Peaky Blinders fic.
Dweller on the Threshold (39745 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 7/7
Fandom: Twin Peaks
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Dale Cooper, Albert Rosenfield, Audrey Horne, Harry Truman, Dennis "Denise" Bryson, [others cut for space]
Additional Tags: [ cut for space ]
Summary: On April 3, 1989, Audrey Horne turns up at the Philadelphia FBI field office looking for Albert Rosenfield. She has a story to tell, a business card, and a request for assistance. Over the next few days Albert discovers supernatural science projects and the reason why even forensic specialists should keep up their firearms training, Denise Bryson has a car and the will to use it, the Bookhouse Boys really ought to subcontract more, and Harry Truman has a serious problem on his hands: BOB is out, and eager for fun. He wears a smile; everybody run.
I always thought that if Twin Peaks had come just a couple of years later, it would've had a huge internet following. Which is not to say that it hasn't managed to keep a respectable fandom for the last twenty years, but in a just world there would be a hundred different meaty fic versions of what happened after the finale. At least now we have this one. I have been wanting something like this story forever. Forever.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Brooklyn Nine-Nine (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Rosa Diaz/Amy Santiago
Additional Tags: Undercover
Summary: "Sure, whatever," says Diaz. She slouches even further into today's leather jacket. "Women hit on me all the time. I know how to handle it."
This had me at "undercover in a gay bar"—especially since it was Santiago and Diaz—and then went light years above and beyond.
This year I wrote six stories in six different fandoms, and none of them are repeats of canons I've written for Yuletide over the past five years. I don't know if anyone ever really plays this game, because there are over 2500 stories, but if anyone correctly guesses any one of them, I'll totally write something for them.
