(no subject)
Aug. 10th, 2007 06:14 pmTaking a break from a somewhat relentless Friday at work to post a State of the CJ...
Most of us in fandom (HP and otherwise) have some very big decisions to make right now: whether or not to leave LJ and where to go if and when we do. And no matter what happens now things are obviously going to be changing. I'd gotten very settled in to LJ, I'll be honest, but before LJ I was settled into other places too and the thing about fandom is that no matter where we are or how we do things, fandom survives. We're going to be fine.
I'm actually okay with the fact that not everything and everyone will be going to the same place, I've made peace with it now. I'm comfortable with XML feeds and consolidating links for myself and feel that I can quite comfortably adapt. For myself, my preference is JournalFen, the one place I can feel sure that I don't have to be constantly watching my back. I happily accept any minor technological problems (and they are in the process of upgrading) for that kind of peace of mind. But I do have an account on IJ too and will be keeping up with any developments there as well. (I just don't feel GJ is an option, not if we don't want to be facing this exact same situation 6 months down the road.)
Ultimately, with the dispersion of fandom, I think the fandom newsletters are going to be what keeps us together, wherever they end up broadcasting from. I <3 you guys, all you guys, seriously. Collections of links from all the places fandom has settled? I can get behind that, and putting my money where my mouth is I would be willing to help as well, if it's ever needed.
So yes, I'm good with this. I've seen fandom migrate before and I'm sure this won't be the last time. (It's a crap situation right now, but I'm not even getting into that right now; a couple hundred people have already said everything I could.) Everything will eventually settle and there will be art and stories and yes, porn, once again.
For reference:
InsaneJournal: cjmarlowe
JournalFen: cjmarlowe
... and I'm cjmarlowe nearly everywhere else a journal can be had, but those are the two I expect will be used.
And in closing, if anyone that I know still needs/wants an account on JournalFen, please let me know. :)
