(no subject)

And so July 1 rolls around once again. Not only is it Canada Day, but it marks the fourth anniversary of me packing up my life and hauling my ass two days east to Toronto. And even though I'm not sure now that I'm going to settle here for good (I think wanderlust was instilled in me from birth), I still love it here.

So, to celebrate! Back in May I posted the first seventeen comment ficlets I wrote in response to [livejournal.com profile] fahrbot's awesome Dean picspams. Here are eighteen more.

1. growing up winchester
2. smart!dean
3. drunk and disorderly

I think I love you. You've just made my otherwise very blech day.

Also, above average spillage effort! I'm impressed!

Ethan's got this tiny mole, right at the back of his neck at his hairline, and Dean tongues it gently as they try to gather their things again, breaking every few moments to fall into each other's arms again, unable to keep their hands to themselves. Getting ready to head back to the diner is a very long process.

"So do I get to spend the rest of the evening pretending I don't know you're flirting with me?" says Dean, taking another look across the river, memorizing the place.

"Do I get to spend the rest of my shift trying not to burn myself on the grill every time you give me one of those looks?"

"You almost burned yourself?"

"Twice," Ethan admits. "Not often someone like you passes through looking at someone like me."

"Idiots," says Dean, pulling him closer by the belt loops to give him another kiss. He's not surprised, though. Small town like this, grease-stained apron covering half his best parts, hardly ever looking anyone in the eye. It's pretty easy to see why someone like Ethan's been overlooked, and frankly in these kinds of small towns it might be better that way. "You ever think about getting out of here?"

"Waiting for my little sister to finish school this spring," he admits, pressing fingertips to Dean's collarbone for a moment, staring at his throat instead of his eyes. "Then we're both leaving this place behind. Not that it doesn't have its, uh, good memories."

Dean doesn't ask. He gets it. And he just smiles as he tugs on Ethan's beltloops again, this time back in the direction they came.

"You're going to be late," he murmurs.

"Won't be the first time," says Ethan. His lips are swollen and his hair is a disaster and for a moment Dean actually feels like the cradle robber he is. Ethan looks freshly fucked, even though they didn't so much as manage to get more than shirts off the whole time they were here. "Maybe not for this reason."

Dean tries to smooth down his hair, then gives up. If Ethan doesn't mind heading back looking like that, then Dean doesn't either.

It's easier after that, for certain values of the word 'easy'. It means leaving the diner, hitting the pavement, finding out a little bit more about the history of the town from those people who remember hearing about it even if it was never written down, but Dean always knew he'd have to eventually. You can find out anything if you know where to look.

When it's all said and done Dean wonders for a moment if you can see the glow of the bone fire from the diner, but knows there are too many trees between here and there for Ethan to know what he's up to. He wonders if he's looking, though. He wonders if Ethan is thinking about him.

Sam stays at the motel after they're done, showering so long that Dean's gotta wonder just what about this place's got him so worked up. He's just glad he went first, and yells that he's taking off right before he does, twirling his keys around his finger and not worrying that his hair's still damp.

The diner's not far, and he bets he has someone waiting for him.

My six years in SF anniversary was early this year. ;p
