day the first
It's yuletide, at last! And despite spending about half of yesterday with a vicious headache, I did manage to squeeze a little bit of reading in. I've decided I want to try to put up a recs post every day between now and the author reveal, even if they're short, because if I don't I might not do it at all again and part of the joy of yuletide is sharing your discoveries. So these are my recs for yesterday. (A little bit late because, well, the madness archive was open so I sort of just...kept on writing right up to the wire. And today's are probably going to be late too because as soon as this goes up I'm going to be gone for the rest of the day.)
First, the stories that were written for me!
Continual State of Inelegance [Jane Austen's Fight Club]
Catherine Morland/Isabella Thorpe slash for meeeee! I was so psyched when I got this, you have no idea. The writing is fantasic and the mood and details are just exactly right for the story.
A Whole New Way [Jane Austen's Fight Club]
And yes, I got a treat too! This story is tagged "Kinky Gen" which might be my new favourite tag. It's a fantastic portrait of Lizzie Bennet, and has a very specific and unexpected detail that's one of my favourite things in fic.
And then three more, for a start. I've just barely started reading, and I'm doing it almost completely at random right now.
No Brakes [Actor RPF]
James Dean/Paul Newman. The banter was fantastic and period specific and the chemistry (as it seems to have been, based on what little we've seen of them together) was sizzling. And if you know me, you know how much I dig James Dean to begin with.
Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow [Covert Affairs]
Ben Mercer/Jai Wilcox. This was my request that got away, the last one cut while I was choosing my final four before signing up, so I'm really glad it was written for someone else! I love that for everything this story says, it suggests twice as much.
An Ocean Not To Break [Arts & Sciences RPF]
Byron/Shelley. (Be sure to heed the warnings at the top.) I love this pairing and I love Byron and I love that this story was written. The atmosphere of the whole piece is dense in the best way and it's gorgeously written. It's described as "fragments from a romance" and I think that's just about the most apt description possible.
