I've only had intermittent access to a television the past six years or so, and this past winter holiday I probably watched more over the course of two weeks than I had the whole year before. The verdict? I'm not going to bother getting cable when I get my next place.
It's not that there isn't a lot of good stuff on TV - there is, although being Canadian there's a lot of it I can't get without a specialty channel or waiting a year for the licensing. And it's not all the bad stuff, because there's always been that on TV. For me, it's the stuff in-between - the stuff I'm willing to sit down and lose a whole evening in front of when I could be reading or writing or going out and doing something. So DVDs it is.
